GAIL, AM Green to Develop 2.5 GW RE Projects

GAIL (India) Limited and AM Green B.V. (AMG) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance sustainable energy solutions.

In line with the MoU, both the parties will jointly develop solar/wind hybrid renewable projects up to 2.5 GW across India.

The hybrid projects combined with Greenko’s upcoming pump storage projects are poised to supply round the clock power to the end users including the proposed eMethanol project.

Additionally, the partners will undertake studies for long-term supply of around 350 KTA CO2 generated by GAIL in its gas processing plants to produce eMethanol. eMethanol is an environmentally friendly fuel that can reduce carbon emissions and promote a circular economy.

GAIL will also have an equity option to invest in the proposed eMethanol project, ensuring a strategic partnership that supports both companies’ objectives in promoting sustainable energy solutions.

AM Green’s production of the green ammonia across multiple locations in India will accelerate its target to achieve 5 MTPA of green ammonia capacity by 2030, and its efforts to achieve net zero targets in India as well as in OECD markets. This will be equivalent to about 1 MTPA of green hydrogen, representing a fifth of India’s target for green hydrogen production under the country’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and 10 percent of Europe’s target for green hydrogen imports by 2030. AM Green will also establish large-scale bio refineries that utilize multiple feedstocks & produce high-value green products enabling global decarbonization in aviation, fuels, chemicals and other industrial sectors.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Mr Sumit Kishore, Executive Director (Business Development and Exploration & Production), GAIL, Mr Mahesh Kolli, Group President, AM Green and Mr Rajeev Singhal, Director (Business Development), GAIL.

Mr Kolli said, “… This partnership demonstrates AM Green’s emerging leadership position as a global clean energy transition solutions platform while contributing to India’s ambition of emerging as an exporter of reliable, sustainable and lowest cost green molecules and its derivatives accelerating industrial decarbonization globally. The production of green methanol shall also help in decarbonization of hard to abate sectors like shipping, steel, cement etc.”

Mr Singhal said, “The MoU underscores our commitment to pioneering sustainable energy solutions. By facilitating the supply of CO2 for eMethanol production, we are taking a proactive approach to reduce carbon emissions and support alternative fuel development. Development of renewable energy projects will support reducing carbon footprint of the country and advancing India’s transition to a greener energy landscape. The partnership between GAIL and AMG is set to augment technological innovation in India while also promoting economic growth and environmental sustainability.”

AM Green, SJVN to Execute One of World’s Largest Carbon-Free RE Project

AM Green and SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the long-term supply and sourcing of carbon free RE or renewable energy.

AM Green will receive 4,500 MW of carbon-free energy from SGEL for its green ammonia facilities, integrating pumped hydro storage with solar and wind power.

SJVN plans to execute the project in three phases, with the first phase delivering 1,500 MW within two years. The initiative is a major milestone for SJVN’s renewable energy expansion in India, supporting its goal of reaching 25,000 MW by 2030 and 50,000 MW by 2040.

Keppel, AM Green Sign MoU for Biogenic Carbon-Based SFs

Keppel Corporation Limited (Keppel), and AM Green have partnered to explore opportunities to produce biogenic carbon-based SFs or sustainable fuels.

The biogenic carbon-based sustainable fuels include bio and green methanol, second-generation (2G) ethanol, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The MOU was signed against the backdrop of COP 28 in Dubai. The two parties will jointly identify, evaluate, and co-develop projects in Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The goal is to generate one million tonnes of biogenic carbon dioxide annually for sustainable fuel production in AM Green’s plants.

The partners will also identify areas for collaboration in the value chain of a bio-methanol project in India. The project aims to produce 500,000 tonnes of bio-methanol annually.

This MOU also aligns with the launch of LeadIT 2.0, which was announced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at COP 28 in Dubai. LeadIT 2.0’s primary goal is to co-develop, transfer, and provide low-carbon technology and financial support to developing countries.

Cindy Lim, CEO, Keppel’s Infrastructure Division, said, “Biofuels have an important role to play in decarbonizing industrial operations and the aviation sector. Keppel’s expertise in handling domestic waste and organic feedstock and carbon cycling expertise will significantly enhance their collaboration with AM Green. This partnership aims to spur the development of next-generation biofuels and sustainable aviation fuel in the region, which can serve as substitutes for fossil fuels.”

Mahesh Kolli, President, AM Green, said, “We are excited to partner with Keppel to drive India’s transition towards renewable energy exports like green methanol and SAF. AM Green will utilize Greenko’s Intelligent Renewable Energy Storage Platform (IRESP) to enable Prime Minister Modi’s vision of India’s leadership in the global efforts to combat climate change. It will also establish us as a reliable, sustainable source of low-cost green molecules to catalyze India’s and the world’s decarbonization.”

It must be noted that Keppel and Greenko have expanded their agreement signed in October 2022. The agreement explores the possibility of building a green ammonia production facility in India to produce 250,000 tonnes annually. Up to 1.3 GW of solar and wind energy projects, supported by pumped hydro storage, are planned to power the facility.
